Why Osaka?

Osaka has played an important role in Japan’s history since ancient times. Flourishing as a port town, it served as a gateway for trade and became a vibrant hub where cultures, ideas, and people came together.

As a key commercial center, Osaka was an important distribution point where fine goods from across Japan and abroad were transported to Nara and Kyoto, which were once the nation’s capitals.

Osaka is also known as the entertainment capital of Japan. It is home to many traditional performing arts, such as Noh and Bunraku. In addition, innovations that originated in and around Osaka—such as karaoke, conveyor-belt sushi, and instant cup noodles—have spread worldwide and gained universal popularity.

Osaka invites visitors from all over the world to explore its maze of alleys and streets and experience the true spirit of the city.
